Response to complaint filed with the Illinois Attorney General

The Illinois Attorney General's Office responded to John Duerk's complaint about the City Clerk's failure to post the June 11th council minutes online. An excerpt from the letter he received Friday, July 13, 2007 reads:

"We have received your request on July 10, 2007, and will process this request promptly to determine what action our office may undertake to assist you. The Open Meetings Act has both civil and criminal enforcement. Section 120/3 authorizes any person, including the State's Attorney of the county in which the alleged noncompliance has occurred to bring a civil action within 60 days after the meeting has occurred, and authorizes the State's Attorney to bring civil or criminal action within 60 days after the violation has been discovered by the State's Attorney."

An email has also been sent to DeKalb County State's Attorney Ron Matekaitis.
