RE: Current Residence of Alderman Wogen

Dear Mayor Povlsen:

It has been brought to my attention that Alderman Wogen is not currently living in the Third Ward for his own personal reasons. Since the council is a representative body and each alderman is elected by only the citizens of their respective wards, it is imperative they maintain a residence within the boundaries that have been established. Not only does this guarantee constituent interests are best represented during the policymaking process, but it also helps foster social capital by strengthening bonds between public officials and our local citizens. As mayor, you have a responsibility to investigate this matter and see that it is resolved immediately.

I request that you respond to my concerns in writing. This is the professional approach that guarantees each of us knows exactly what the other person has said. Unlike a phone conversation, when you craft a formal letter you cannot be misunderstood if your points are clearly stated.

Sincerely,

John A. Duerk, Ph. D. Student

Alderman Keller, Seventh Ward

Email response from Mayor Povlsen:

I have talked to Alderman Wogen who will address this at the next CC Meeting.

Email rebuttal from John Duerk:

Mayor Povlsen,

Thank you for responding to my email.

I eagerly await to see how this matter is addressed by Alderman Wogen at the next council meeting on Monday, September 28th, and, more importantly, how it is finally corrected.

Sincerely,

John Duerk
