A DeKalb alderman was arrested and charged with domestic battery on Sunday, Aug. 16, according to court documents. Victor Wogen, 3rd Ward alderman, said his wife called the police after an argument and claimed he pushed her, causing her to fall onto a couch.

Wogen denies the allegations.

“We had a 30-second argument at most,” he said in a phone interview. “We exchanged words and I walked out.”

Wogen said he was on his way to play softball in Rollo when the argument happened. He said the argument took place at 11:30 a.m. He left the house at 11:33 a.m. for his game starting at 12:30 p.m.

DeKalb Police Chief Bill Feithen said the decision to hand the investigation over to DeKalb County was his own.

“We could have handled the investigation,” Feithen said, “but because he is a city alderman we didn’t want to leave any doubt in the citizen’s mind that he got special treatment.”

Feithen said in cases of domestic battery the accused person must spend the night in jail.

Wogen said he was frustrated that he had to spend the night in jail, but understood why it was in place.

Wogen said he is currently going through a divorce, and believes the accusation is “a tactic to make [him] look bad.”
